Small paws stepped lightly across the water, sinking into mud and rock, the cold liquid rushing past her feet. Claws scratched along the stones until the small wolf pulled herself up out of the shallow water, onto the opposite surface with the slightest of heaves, small necklace tinkling against her thick chest as she shook herself from her shoulders to her flanks, pelt on slightly touched by the river, her paws drying quickly as the drops of water fell off, soaking into the ground.
She licked her lips, bright blue eyes passing out around her, looking over the trees for any sign of company. Her ears twitched forward, nose lifting to scent through the frosty air. She sneezed slightly, the cold making her warm nose numb. Wiping a still wet paw across her nose in attempts to warm in she let out a low groaning noise. That didn't help at all. With a sigh she gave up, stepped away so close from the rushing water, turning to it, moving to shift into a laying place by the water.
She looked over the river, slight chunks of ice slipping through the river's tiny falls. It was beautiful in a way, the ice glittering as it slipped past the rays of sunlight slipping through the tall trees around it. Her lips pulled back slightly in a small wolfish smile.
She lowered her head to her paws, resting, listening to the sounds of the water. She heard it many times but still it was peaceful. So peaceful the rushing river was it almost overpowered the chill of the bitter wind blowing through her fur. As a wolf she was warmer but she still felt the wind's icey touch. It was the season of ice and cold after all. Cold or not however, it was her favorite... When it snowed, how marvelous it looked. The ice so bright and glittering. The water always seemed clearer this time of year. It was hard to imagine sometimes how hard the winter was on her, how her stomach ever so slightly ached with the pain of hunger, how she lacked the life-giving sleep she so desperately needed.
The wolf shook her head softly, resting it once more on her paws, blue eyes closing slightly against the chill. She sighed, breath coming out in a billowing smoke-cloud. Maybe here she could rest a bit...?
