Even the warm summer air couldn’t keep away the evening fog or the chill in the heart of the mourning. Kneeling before nothing more than a small rock and a single wild flower, was a tall, black-haired woman, a single, shining tear running down her cheek. Thankfully there was no one there in that dark place, no one there to catch her. She knew she shouldn’t be in human territory but she had to come in secret to honor her mother and father’s hidden remains. She could never resist the pull their death had on her heart, the tug of agony from the loss.
The sun slowly sunk down beneath the trees, the last lights quickly fading into the shadows it cast. The young woman rose, towering tall from the earth and smiled softly, raising a hand to wipe her long fingers across her cheek to rid the evidence of her tears. She never really allowed herself to stay upset for too long. The words her mother spoke to her as a young girl echoed in her head, “When you’ve hit rock bottom Blue, the only way is up. You can’t stay mad forever, so why stay mad at all?” The smile on the young woman’s face widened a bit more.
As the woman’s gaze shifted over to the last shimmer of sunlight, she raised her hand to her hair, running it over the long braid running down her back to the tie. She pulled out the leather cord holding it tight and undid the braid, letting her hair fall in waves at her back. She cast a glance over the cemetery, debating whether or not to change and run for it. Upon a last thought however, she grabbed a bag at her feet and took off running on silent, bare feet, across the graveyard to the gate. The last thing she needed was an angry human grave keeper shooting at her…
