Thrinter was a good distance from Nyalcom territory, but Nymeria knew that if you wanted new information, you could hardly get that by sitting around inside your castle. Of course, she had scouts spread out at the edges of her borders, as well as in other towns that hadn't been claimed by other packs. Leaving Nyalcom territory was probably something of a dangerous move, but Nymeria refused to be a lazy Alpha. She been hard at work in the years since she'd become an Alpha, and had no inclination to rest any time soon.
She didn't travel alone at least; there were two guards that traveled with her, though they were about their own business in town. It was a bright cold day, and she wore a coat lined with the fur of one of the cougars which hunted alone the mountain range at Nyalcom's border. The hood was drawn up, blocking the sunlight from her face while a few locks of blonde hair hung free.
The village was quiet enough for the time being, but it was busy too. Prosperous. Nyalcom was a territory filled with frightened humans and bandits; less than there had been before she was Alpha, but still many more than Nymeria felt comfortable with. That will change, she told herself. There was a large fountain in the center of the town, but the water inside of it had been frozen over. When she walked up to it and looked down, she could see fish hibernating below the ice, their tails and gills barely moving. Retreating into her own thoughts, she watched them for a while.
