BOOM! A crack of thunder shuddered above her. The sounds of her paws racing through the snow were muffled for a moment. Heavy snowflakes fell quickly from the sky. Although she had many fears, running in a winter storm was not one of them. Her heart was beating fast, possibly faster than she was running. He breath came quickly in short gasps. The blonde fur she kept neat and clean was wet and ruffled from the wind now. Running and swerving through the trees she gained a lot of distance. It was almost as if she were flying. It felt so free to just run. And then she caught movement up ahead. She slowed her pace to a brisk trot, scanning the land for any other movements. When she noticed none her attention turned back to her original object of distraction. Digging in the snow just a few feet in front of her, was a small white-tailed deer. It still had white spots on its coat, signifying that it was still a fawn.
Instantly the Alpha Female of the Rulin pack dropped into a crouch, looking for the young deer's mother. Luckily there were bushes that Aurora was able to hide behind. Not able to find any other deer just using her sight, she decided it didn't matter anyway. The blonde wolf would take this prey down with ease. She crept forward measuring her steps precisely. Feeling she was in the right position and within the right distance Aurora decided it was time to act. Her instincts were kicking in and taking total control over her. Her mouth began to water, imagining the warmth of the fawn between her jaws. Charging forward she let out a quick howl. Another loud boom of thunder trembled through the forest.
The fawn stopped grazing and froze, looking for the source of the sound. It took too long to find her before running. Aurora easily caught up to the fawn, running directly next to it. Stretching her neck over quickly, she snapped at the fawn's throat. Purposely she missed by just a few centimeters. The fawn changed direction and Aurora followed suit. To her this was part of the hunt. She didn't want it to be over so soon. After playing with the fawn for a little while she decided to end it's misery. Using a quick bolt of energy Aurora was once again, running next to the fawn. She even passed it a little bit. This is where she gained her advantage. The blonde wolf was able to plan her attack to the t. Turning her head swiftly her sharp teeth closed around the soft throat of the fawn, killing it instantly.
Aurora was able to position her body so that she was not hit when the fawn collapsed on the snow covered forest floor. Transforming back into her human form, she smiled down at her victim. It was a nice kill, not the cleanest, but at least the job was done. She let out a laugh, watching as the snow under the fawn turned red. At this point she might have looked a little crazy to a normal human. She was a beautiful blonde woman who had a skinny figure. That part was normal I suppose. The part that wasn't? She was standing above a dead fawn, laughing, wearing just a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. There were no shoes on her feet and there might have been a little bit of blood on her face from the kill.
She was still laughing softly and looking at her kill. She wiped her hand across her mouth, transferring some blood to the back of her hand. When Aurora felt something running across her toes, she wiggled them about and glanced down at her feet. They were becoming soaked with the blood. Images flashed through her mind, wiping the smile off her face and silencing her laughter.
She took a few steps backward, panicking. Her hands ran across her face, smearing the blood even more. She tried to stop herself from seeing the picture her mind was painting. Within seconds she began to hear the screams. The sounds of thunder began to become more present within Aurora’s mind, even though those were sounds of reality. She stumbled backwards over a tree root, falling on her butt. She shuffled her body in reverse until her back hit the sturdy trunk of a tree. Pulling her knees up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them she began to cry quietly, rocking back and forth.
The images were so vivid as if they were happening once again. And the sounds were so loud, so loud she could barely hear herself think. The memories took her back. To the nice weathered day. It was warm for a day in March, it almost felt like summer. The grass was green and there was no snow in sight. Flowers were beginning to blossom. Chloe’s laughter rang out in her mind. The two of them were running in their wolf forms. Chasing butterflies and dancing through the flowers. Everything was perfect, everything was as it should’ve been. Until they showed up. It was as if a dark cloud hovered over the two young girls. There were only four, no maybe just three, or were there five? She couldn’t remember just now. No matter how many, they still had the same goal in mind. To hurt the little girls.
Chloe and Aurora both fought valiantly against the small pack of rogues. But there was no way they would have ever defeated them. If only Chloe could have held on for a few more seconds. She would still be alive. If only Aurora had been a better fighter or braver she could have taken on the rogue. She could have saved her best friend’s life. Seeing the lifeless body of Chloe in her mind once more caused a lot of pain. She didn’t remember much after that, except she knew she let her guard down. When she went to see if Chloe was okay, she stopped paying attention to the rogue. She didn’t even think about dying, matter of fact she probably would have welcomed it. That would have meant she could still be with Chloe. Luckily, Aurora’s father saved her though. When he arrived he killed the wolf that killed Chloe. That was about all that Aurora could remember. That’s all she wanted to remember.
Having to relive the pain in moments like this killed her. But that was part of her guilt. That was part of her being weak. She didn’t believe she did everything she could have to save her best friend. Of course, Aurora blamed herself. How could she not. Still crying Aurora took a deep breath and tried to calm down a little bit. She was just glad she had the breakdown out here where no one could see her. The pack didn’t need to see that their Alpha female was so pathetic. She had to be strong for her pack, that’s what part of being an Alpha was.
She was especially glad that Tuvio wasn’t here. As much as she loved him, Aurora could feel that he was already frustrated with her. Her self-confidence level was never the highest, but lately it had been lacking more than normal. Tuvio was trying to help her, but at times it didn’t seem to do much. Aurora knew he believed in her, it was just hard for her to believe in herself. She tried most of the time to seem stronger when he was around, but when she needed to let her guard down like this she felt like it was a benefit for her that he didn’t know about it._____________________words: 1294.
